More Information
I am the managing editor of Poynter Online, which means I oversee content on the site, edit articles and blogs, and report on media news and practices. I started as a Web producer when I came to Poynter in 2007 and then moved into reporting. I also co-edited "Best Newspaper Writing 2008-2009," a collection of ASNE award-winning writing and photojournalism.
Before moving to Florida, I spent about six years in Mobile, Ala., as a reporter for the Press-Register, focusing on local government accountability from jail management to hurricane preparation and response. After completing a Kiplinger fellowship at OSU, I returned to the Gulf Coast with a Katrina Media fellowship to investigate the role of faulty flood maps in the hurricane's destruction.
I've also worked at the News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. and the Charleston (W.V.) Daily Mail.
